This August, as India is preparing to celebrate its Independence Day, Jio Hotstar will contribute to the patriotic spirit with its new espionage thriller Salakaar. Loosely based on real events and drawn from actual missions, the show features Aspirants star Naveen Kasturia alongside Kanstantsin Savitski, Vaibhav Raj Gupta, and others, playing an Indian spy who saves the day from Pakistan’s nuclear aspirations.
The creators recently released a teaser video that serves as an indicator of an action-packed, politically intense plot. The trailer begins with a voiceover exposing General Zia-ul-Haq’s clandestine schemes to develop Pakistan’s first nuclear bomb. In reaction, the Indian government deploys an elite intelligence agent — a retired IPS officer to infiltrate Pakistan and sabotage the mission from within. He is a “trump card” character in the series believed to have been modelled after India’s National Security Advisor, Ajit Doval, who played a legendary undercover role in Pakistan in the 1980s.
Naveen Kasturia portrays the title role of Salakaar, the spy who leads a double life in Pakistan as he undertakes one of India’s most courageous intelligence operations. Mouni Roy and also veteran actor Mukesh Rishi appear in important roles. Rishi plays Pakistani General Zia, infusing the role of the antagonist with intensity and realism.
The show promises to give a gripping mix of patriotism, suspense, and actual political intrigue. With gripping high-stakes storytelling based on real events, Salakaar is going to give the audience a dramatic and emotionally resonant experience.
Salakaar will be exclusively available on Jio Hotstar on 8th August, a few days ahead of Independence Day, and is thus guaranteed to be watched by fans of patriotic thrillers and spy dramas.
