Actress Aimee Lou Wood, known for her charming screen presence and distinctive smile, recently shared that she often feels “sad” when her teeth become the focus of public conversation more than her acting work. The S*x Education and The White Lotus 3 star revealed in an interview with GQ Hype that although she’s “really happy” her signature gap-toothed smile has come to represent “rebellion and freedom,” she feels frustrated that discussions still tend to revolve around a woman’s looks instead of her talent.

“It makes me really happy that it’s symbolising rebellion and freedom, but there’s a limit,” Aimee said. “The whole conversation is just about my teeth, and it makes me a bit sad because I’m not getting to talk about my work.”
She added, “Would we be talking about it this much if it were a man?”

Battling Insecurities on Set of The White Lotus 3
Aimee also shared her emotional journey while filming The White Lotus 3 in Thailand. She recalled being told that show creator Mike White had fought hard to cast her in the role of Chelsea, even when it appeared HBO had reservations. Though well-intended, this feedback triggered self-doubt.
“My little head goes, ‘HBO didn’t want me. And I know why – it’s because I’m ugly,’” Aimee admitted.
However, Mike White reassured her and encouraged her uniqueness, telling her, “Don’t get in the way of your weirdness. Be freaky!”

With a star-studded cast including Patrick Schwarzenegger, Parker Posey, and Sarah Catherine Hook, the crew lived at the Four Seasons in Koh Samui for seven months. Aimee confessed that the immersive experience left her emotionally drained.
“It did feel like a bit of a social experiment,” she said. “I had a slow and steady disintegration of my sanity.”
