Malayalam cinema is witnessing a historic moment as Mohanlal’s gripping revenge thriller Thudarum takes the global box office by storm. The film, directed by Tharun Moorthy, has achieved an extraordinary milestone by grossing over USD 7.3 million in its opening week from international markets alone a feat rarely seen for regional Indian films.
In North America, Thudarum has surpassed the coveted USD 1 million mark, joining the elite club of Malayalam blockbusters overseas. The film has also performed strongly in other territories — collecting GBP 500,000 in the UK and Ireland, AUD 500,000 in Australia, and NZD 100,000 in New Zealand. The worldwide reception highlights the film’s broad appeal and the increasing demand for strong regional content globally.

Domestically, the film is rewriting box office records. In just five days, Thudarum has earned Rs 33.50 crore gross in Kerala, outperforming several recent releases. It has already eclipsed Maranamass, which made Rs 12.85 crore over 20 days, and is fast approaching the Rs 36.85 crore total of Alappuzha Gymkhana. Analysts predict the film will cross the Rs 100 crore global gross mark by the end of Wednesday, making it Mohanlal’s second consecutive century after L2: Empuraan.

Thudarum follows the intense story of Benz, a cab driver portrayed by Mohanlal, who becomes entangled in a web of caste politics, honor killings, and institutional injustice. With its raw storytelling and powerful themes rooted in Kerala’s social fabric, the film has resonated with audiences worldwide.
As L2: Empuraan begins to fade from cinemas, Thudarum is leading the box office charge, cementing Mohanlal’s legacy as a global superstar and a master of meaningful cinema.
