Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning, the highly anticipated eighth and final installment in the blockbuster franchise, is heading for a thunderous opening at the Indian box office. With nearly 12 hours still left for advance bookings, the film has already crossed the 100,000 ticket mark across major national multiplex chains, signaling a massive first-day turnout on Saturday, May 17.
Early estimates suggest that The Final Reckoning could comfortably surpass the ₹15 crore mark on its opening day, outpacing 2023’s Dead Reckoning Part One, which had debuted at ₹12.25 crore. The combination of fan excitement, premium format offerings, and the franchise finale effect is fueling brisk sales. With walk-in bookings expected to rise sharply on release day, the film may score even higher.
Directed by Christopher McQuarrie, the action-packed thriller picks up directly from where Dead Reckoning left off. Tom Cruise returns as the indomitable Ethan Hunt, joined by franchise regulars Hayley Atwell, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Henry Czerny, and Angela Bassett. The film, running for 2 hours and 49 minutes, promises high-octane sequences and emotional depth, earning it a U/A certificate from the CBFC.
Despite facing production delays due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike, the movie wrapped in late 2024 and had its world premiere in Tokyo on May 5. It also received a five-minute standing ovation at the 78th Cannes Film Festival following a prestigious screening on May 14.
Distributed in India by Viacom18, the film is being released on over 3,000 screens nationwide. The strategy includes English screenings in urban multiplexes and Hindi-dubbed versions in smaller towns to ensure wide appeal.
With a massive ₹300–₹400 crore budget and glowing early reviews, The Final Reckoning could become the highest-grossing Mission: Impossible film in India, aiming to surpass Dead Reckoning’s ₹106 crore lifetime total.
