Thursday thud! Reema Kagti’s Superboys Of Malegaon fails to impress audiences on day 7

“Superboys of Malegaon,” directed by Reema Kagti and produced by Farhan Akhtar, Zoya Akhtar, Ritesh Sidhwani, and Kagti herself, has completed a week of its release in theaters. Despite its promising premise and a talented cast, including Adarsh Gourav, Vineet Kumar Singh, and Shashank Arora, the film has failed to make a significant impact at the box office. The slice-of-life movie, inspired by the 2008 documentary Supermen of Malegaon, has not lived up to expectations, with a steady decline in ticket sales expected in the coming days.

Premiere and Early Buzz

Before its theatrical release, Superboys of Malegaon was premiered at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival in 2024, where it received a standing ovation. This positive reception left filmmaker Nasir Shaikh emotional and hopeful for the film’s future success. However, despite the buzz, the film’s box office performance has not mirrored the excitement surrounding it.

The Road Ahead

The coming-of-age film, while struggling to gain momentum in cinemas, still has a couple of weeks to improve its numbers. However, the outlook isn’t promising, especially as the film faces stiff competition from other releases like Crazxy, starring Sohum Shah, and Vicky Kaushal’s blockbuster Chhaava.

Post-Theatrical Plans

Despite its box office struggles, the makers are optimistic about recovering costs through non-theatrical revenue, including its upcoming release on Amazon Prime Video. Once the film leaves cinemas, it will make its way to the streaming platform, where it is expected to find a different audience.

Looking Ahead

While Superboys of Malegaon may not achieve a major box-office success, its post-theatrical life on streaming could provide it with the recognition it deserves. Fans of heartfelt, inspirational films may still find it a rewarding watch when it hits Amazon Prime Video.
