Sonakshi Sinha’s Nikita Roy Struggles to Impress! Film Collects Rs 15 Lakh on Opening Day

Sonakshi Sinha is back on the big screen as a lead with Nikita Roy, a supernatural thriller helmed by her brother Kussh Sinha. In spite of all the hype around her return, the film received underwhelming figures at the box office. Nikita Roy could rake in only ₹15 lakh net on its opening day, with a slow theatrical start.

The movie, which also features Paresh Rawal and Arjun Rampal in central roles, was released on July 18, 2025. Alas, it met with tough competition from Saiyaara and Tanvi The Great, both of which managed to attract more eyeballs from audiences. Saiyaara, which features newcomers Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, opened to a whopping ₹20 crore, whereas Tanvi The Great, directed by and featuring Anupam Kher, raked in ₹30 lakh on the opening day twice Nikita Roy’s amount.

Low Promotions and Lack of Buzz to Blame
Nikita Roy could not muster much hype before release. Having received minimal marketing and a lack of word-of-mouth, the movie did not earn much public interest. The majority of viewers seemed more likely to view Saiyaara, which had a new cast and effective promotional campaign.

This is Sonakshi Sinha’s comeback to lead roles in cinemas after Double XL (2022). She last appeared on the horror-comedy Kakuda on ZEE5 and appeared in a cameo in Bade Miyan Chote Miyan (2024). With past successes such as Dabangg, Rowdy Rathore, and Lootera, Sonakshi was hoping to get back into the game with this one.

But unless Nikita Roy gets a big fillip through good word of mouth during the weekend, its box office seems bleak. The film is playing in theatres all over the country.
