Aamir Khan’s Sitaare Zameen Par Set for Rs 3.61 Crore Opening: Can it Conquer the Box Office?

After a three-year hiatus, Aamir Khan is making his return to the big screen with Sitaare Zameen Par. Directed by RS Prasanna, the film is being positioned as a spiritual successor to Khan’s 2007 hit Taare Zameen Par. Despite receiving a massive ₹120 crore OTT offer from Amazon Prime Video, Aamir opted for a theatrical-first release, hoping to revive the cinema-going culture.

Modest Advance Bookings Raise Eyebrows

However, early data suggests a lukewarm initial response. As per Sacnilk.com, the film has collected only ₹99.74 lakh in advance bookings, with 38,770 tickets sold across 6,128 shows nationwide. The Hindi version led with ₹90.64 lakh from 29,689 tickets, followed by the Telugu version at ₹7.87 lakh, and Tamil at ₹1.22 lakh. Including blocked seats, the expected opening day collection may reach ₹3.61 crore.

Delhi recorded the highest pre-release earnings at ₹24.09 lakh, followed by Maharashtra at ₹15.73 lakh and Telangana at ₹12.47 lakh. These numbers are significantly lower than Aamir’s previous releases like Thugs of Hindostan (₹27.5 crore advance) and Laal Singh Chaddha (₹5.71 crore), although Sitaare Zameen Par has a more modest budget.

CBFC Gives Final Green Light After Revisions

The film had recently been under scrutiny from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), raising fears of a delayed release. Aamir reportedly disagreed with the changes proposed by the CBFC’s Examining Committee, prompting a review by the Revising Committee (RC) headed by Vaman Kendre.

As per Bollywood Hungama, the RC asked for minor alterations—changing “Business Woman” to “Business Person,” replacing “Michael Jackson” with “Lovebirds,” removing visuals with the word “Kamal,” and revising disclaimers. Additionally, a quote from Prime Minister Narendra Modi was mandated in the opening sequence.
