Sabrina Carpenter spills the tea on EX Boyfriend Barry Keoghan! Is her new song a breakup anthem?

Sabrina Carpenter astounds us again, this time collaborating with music icon Dolly Parton. On February 14th, 2025, the two artists collaborated on a version of Please Please Please, bringing Carpenter’s pop style to a combination of Parton’s unmistakable country vocals. What comes out is an invigorating twist on the popular track that has already charmed the globe.

Is This A Slight Nod to Barry Keoghan?
The first Please Please Please music video had Carpenter’s former boyfriend, Barry Keoghan, in it, making their previous relationship a subject of gossip. The new video, however, raised eyebrows as it apparently had an Easter egg referencing their past.

In the follow-up video, Parton and Carpenter are spotted riding in a car, harmonizing the words. Parton passes a shovel to Carpenter at one point while Carpenter stands behind a truck. A moment later, someone appears bound in the truck bed with his face obscured. Fans didn’t take time to realize this person is clothed in an identical outfit as Keoghan’s character was in the original video.

Playful Storytelling and Symbolism
Throughout the unfolding of the video, authorities pursue Carpenter and Parton. In the meantime, the two artists appear quite relaxed, having fun with one another. The secret character in the rear emits a stifled scream before Carpenter finally stops. This stylistic and playful storytelling feature has captured the imagination of fans, who have since wondered what the true meaning behind it is.

Carpenter and Keoghan’s Relationship
As reported by People magazine, Carpenter and The Banshees of Inisherin star Barry Keoghan had been on-and-off dating for nearly a year. A source revealed, “They are both young and career-oriented, so they’ve decided to break up.”

With this one-of-a-kind partnership and enigmatic storytelling, Carpenter and Parton have provided fans with yet another reason to discuss Please Please Please as they indulge in its new country-infused music.
