Katy Perry gave fans an emotional yet candid moment during her July 15 concert in Inglewood, California, seemingly addressing her recent breakup with long-time partner Orlando Bloom. While fulfilling a fan request, Perry performed her ballad Not Like the Movies, a song she originally wrote following her divorce from Russell Brand in 2012.
Before singing the heartfelt track, Perry acknowledged the timing, saying, “You are going to make me sing this song at this time in my life?” She added, “Okay, we’ll do it! Because you voted for it.” The crowd had selected the song as part of Perry’s interactive tradition where she lets audiences choose a track from a selected album. For her U.S. tour stop, she picked Teenage Dream, explaining, “I like to pick an album for every country I go to… U.S.A., you better get it together. I will always have that feeling for you.”
Trying to keep the mood light, Perry joked, “I will try and hold my composure while I sing it a week before my period.” Though she didn’t directly name Bloom, her tone and song choice strongly hinted at the emotional weight of her current life chapter.
Breakup Confirmed, But Still Co-Parenting
According to US Weekly, Perry and Bloom called off their engagement in June after nearly a decade of an on-and-off relationship. The couple began dating in 2016, briefly split in 2017, and reunited in 2018. Bloom proposed in 2019, and they welcomed their daughter, Daisy, in 2020.
Sources close to the couple say the breakup was amicable and that both remain committed to co-parenting. Despite going their separate ways romantically, Perry and Bloom are still in regular contact, focusing on providing a stable and loving environment for their daughter.
