Jennie’s latest music video for Love Hangover takes viewers on an emotional and chaotic journey through a toxic relationship, starring Riverdale’s Charles Melton as her lover. The MV opens with Melton delivering an emotional speech at Jennie’s grave, marking the start of a story that blends romance with dysfunction. Jennie returns from the grave, unable to let go of her love, but the relationship is far from ideal.

In the video, Jennie portrays a lover caught in a cycle of mistakes, swearing to never repeat them yet falling into the same toxic behaviors. From lying to her partner to ruining moments that should be meaningful, Jennie’s character is trapped in a “love hangover.” The lyrics, “I’m over, I’m so over/This love isn’t over,” reflect her conflicted emotions as she insists that even death won’t sever her bond with him, despite the unhealthy nature of their relationship.

Dominic Fike’s verses capture the constant push and pull in their relationship, expressing the couple’s lack of communication, with lines like, *”One minute, we’re growing apart, and next I’m in her apartment.” As the couple’s disconnect deepens, bizarre, symbolic events unfold from choking on an engagement ring to Jennie being struck by lightning while floating with a heart-shaped balloon each representing the instability of their romance.

Jennie’s brilliant use of imagery and symbolism shines throughout the MV, showcasing her musical depth. The track is part of her highly anticipated debut album Ruby, which is set for release on March 7. She’ll also be performing live shows in Los Angeles, New York, and Seoul from March 6-10, further building anticipation for the album and her solo career.
