Anubhav Sinha is all set to go back to the courtroom with his next directorial effort, once again delving into socially conscious storytelling. Peepingmoon.com has learnt exclusively that the award-winning filmmaker is developing a new courtroom drama starring Taapsee Pannu in the lead. Though the project is thematically similar to Sinha’s 2018 release ‘Mulk,’ it is not a sequel. Rather, it is a standalone story dealing with critical issues of the times, in keeping with Sinha’s mature genre of unapologetic, incisive cinema.
This is Sinha’s third collaboration with Taapsee Pannu, following their hit couplets together in ‘Mulk’ and ‘Thappad.’ The supporting cast consists of veteran actors Manoj Pahwa and Kumud Mishra, both of whom have been staple actors in Sinha’s films. Casting for important roles is underway.
Sinha, who made a dramatic transition from mainstream commercial films to socially oriented stories with ‘Mulk,’ has since given hard-hitting films such as ‘Article 15,’ ‘Thappad,’ ‘Anek,’ and ‘Bheed.’ His next film is likely to follow the same trend, highlighting pressing issues of society through a riveting courtroom drama.
Directed under Sinha’s Benaras Media Works, the film is set to go on floors in April 2025 in Delhi. Taapsee Pannu will start shooting after finishing work on Netflix India’s action thriller ‘Gandhari,’ in which she plays a resolute mother out to save her kidnapped daughter. She also has the romantic comedy ‘Woh Ladki Hai Kahan,’ alongside Pratik Gandhi, releasing later this year.
With its strong subject matter and a star cast, Anubhav Sinha’s new film promises to be yet another riveting movie experience, redefining his reputation as a director unwilling to shy away from strong and relevant subjects.
