Ajay Devgn returns to the comedy arena with the highly anticipated sequel Son of Sardaar 2. The trailer, released at a big-ticket launch ceremony in Mumbai, features Mrunal Thakur in the role of the new female lead. Translated to Scotland, the movie breaks away from the Punjabi setting of the 2012 original and hints at a zany blend of action, romance, and slapstick humor.
From Punjab to Scotland: A Comedy of Errors
The trailer begins by showing Ajay’s character observing an older woman do a pole dance, then calling her “bebe” before she falls a moment later—letting the audience know that the movie will be full of slapstick mishaps. The story follows Ajay and Mrunal’s characters attempting to marry someone off, getting themselves caught up in a whirlwind of chaos littered with wacky characters and ridiculous situations.

A number of retro catchphrases from the original such as “Just Joking” and “Kadi Hass Bhi Liya Karo”—are brought back again, sending waves of laughter and nostalgia through fans. There are also politically charged lines, such as attacks on Pakistan, and a reference to Sunny Deol’s Border.
Fans Divided Over New Cast and Sequel
Whereas others were excited to see Ajay’s return to comedy, others were let down. Majority questioned the lack of Sonakshi Sinha, the original star, for alleged lack of chemistry between Mrunal and Devgn. Reactions on social media varied from “Circus 2.0 loading” to “Ajay Devgn is back to the comedy!”

A Star-Studded Ensemble and Release Date
Directed by Vijay Kumar Arora, Son of Sardaar 2 boasts a star-studded cast consisting of Ravi Kishan, Sanjay Mishra, Neeru Bajwa, Chunky Panday, and late Mukul Dev. Produced by Jio Studios and Devgn Films, the film will hit the screens on July 25, 2025, and starts a new beginning instead of carrying forward the plot of the first film.
