Ask Sidharth what was the most challenging part for him and he says, “The challenging part was to stand in one frame with Akshay Kumar, who is an icon in action in Indian cinema, he has such great presence. I have no background of martial arts and he has been fighting since god knows when. What he has done for years, I had to do in four months. I think that was the toughest challenge to physically train for 6 hours a day and not do anything else. I didn’t do any other activity or ad films because my look was such. I couldn’t fit into my own clothes. Now I’m back to being 10 kilos lighter and my wardrobe is back.”
He added, “But I think the toughest part was to make up for mixed martial arts style in four months and then keep training for it even when we were shooting. To maintain that 10 kilos higher weight wasn’t easy because the more you train the more you lose weight.”
Telling us about his director Karan Malhotra & how Akshay helped him with the scenes, he said, “Then of course Karan Malhotra was very intelligent in telling me to gain weight and asking Akshay sir to lose weight. Tab jaake hum barabar lagte hai (we look perfect then). And the action was such that we had to make contact, have precision which Akshay sir is very good with, he helped me a lot to cheat and told me, ‘you do this, no we’ll do this move’. He also rehearsed a lot with me. So I think out and out the whole crew got along really well.”

He also spoke about Akki & his bonding. “Because of our backgrounds, we got along really well; we’re both from Delhi, Punjabis, not from the industry, we’re foodies, we’re fond of fitness, we love getting up in the morning and training, we both pay attention to body building and nutrition. So we’ve bonded really well and this relationship helped us do action at least. Because majority of our work is in the ring and action so that was very important that we’ve a correct tuning because one miscalculation could have injured someone,” he said.
Further when probed Sidharth how is he going to stand out in front of Akshay, he said, “Oh this only – with training and looks, how else? I think you have to see the film. It has enough of both the characters. I think it’s a first where two heroes fight, not one hero one villain. So you won’t know who you’re rooting for, you’re very confused. And I think it’s also the first time when men will cry. We don’t really talk about our issues or emotions and how men fight with their siblings. So I think that’s where the USP lies – that men do not show their vulnerable side, how they fight and then eventually talk about their emotions.”
We hope this bond between the two ‘brothers’, Akshay Kumar & Sidharth Malhotra goes a long way!
