They were contemporaries who made their debuts around the same time more than two decades ago in the world of Hindi cinema, Madhuri Dixit and Juhi Chawla i.e. but destinies never crossed the paths wherein they could be pitched together in their heydays. But everybody does get a chance to display histrionics and the chance has come for both of them Madhuri Dixit and Juhi Chawla to display the powerhouse of talent that they are bestowed with, in GULAAB GANG.
GULAAB GANG is supposed to be the comeback film of Madhuri Dixit and it brings back to memories the towering display of histrionics that Madhuri Dixit had displayed with panache in MRITYUDAND and it indeed is going to perhaps start a new trend in the world of Hindi cinema for the film actresses of the yore of the likes of Madhuri Dixit and Juhi Chawla who need an author-backed role to show a side of their acting persona that was hidden behind the veil of glitz and glamour.
Madhuri Dixit also has shades of performance shot with dominance as she had shown in BETA but it is Juhi Chawla who seems to be stealing the show as the scheming politician who knows how to manipulate it. Perhaps Juhi Chawla needed this kind of outlier moment in her acting career and there could not have better way to display it than by being pitted against Madhuri Dixit. One does not know whether the director of GULAAB GANG did this by design to pit these two competitors against each other, but it indeed could be what the Hindi cinema may have been waiting for.
The wait may have been for a film which does not need a male character in a negative role, but to underline the fact that it is a woman pitted against a woman who spells and spews more venom and spitfire and this reality indeed is going to be displayed in all its pink hues in GULAAB GANG. Holi this time around would indeed be different for the world of Hindi cinema when GULAAB GANG releases in March 2014.
