In a recent sit-down with Galatta Plus, Jalal spoke about her long professional and emotional relationship with superstar Shah Rukh Khan. Having acted as his on-screen mother in several films, she shared that their on-screen relationship used to feel like it was real life. “I actually feel this mother-son feeling with Shah Rukh. As he didn’t have a mother figure in his life, I felt I should do all the ‘mamta’ I can towards him,” she said.
She recalled their initial meeting on the sets of the 1992 film Dil Aashna Hai, observing that Khan was shy and reserved initially. But by the time they collaborated on Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ), she observed a significant change. “On the sets of DDLJ, he was a different Shah Rukh. Success does that to you also,” she remarked, observing his transformation into a self-assured star.
