BIFF Spotlight on Alia Bhatt’s Difficult Daughters! Film Gets Selected for Asian Project Market

Alia Bhatt’s upcoming production Difficult Daughters has been officially selected for the highly acclaimed Asian Project Market (APM) 2025, to be held as part of the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF). The APM, running from September 20 to 23 at BEXCO, Busan, will feature 30 exceptional projects from all over Asia, including Bhatt’s highly anticipated film.

A Family Collaboration at Its Core
Directed by acclaimed actress and director Soni Razdan, Difficult Daughters is a milestone production for the Bhatt family. The production is being handled by Alia Bhatt under her banner Eternal Sunshine Productions along with her sister Shaheen Bhatt and experienced indie producer Alan McAlex, whose credits include Santosh. The selection of the film at APM puts it in the list of the most potential Asian films in development this year.

APM 2025: Celebrating Asia’s Shining Stars
APM this year presents a dynamic collection of films by both new and returning artists in Asian cinema. Standouts include The Last Of Them Plagues by director Kunjila Mascillamani and producers Kani Kusruti and Cannes award winner Payal Kapadia, as well as Moon by Pradip Kurbah, recipient of BIFF’s 2019 Jiseok Award. Also included is The Magical Men by Bangladeshi director Biplob Sarkar, an LGBTQ+ story, and Malaysia’s Wake Me Up When the Mourning Ends by Lau Kok Rui.

Chinese cinema has five films represented through three projects led by women filmmakers from Taiwan. Three stories from Japan are also featured and deal with themes of migration, youth, and identity.

Alia Bhatt’s Future Slate
After playing and producing in Vasan Bala’s Jigra, Alia will be appearing in Shiv Rawail’s Alpha alongside Sharvari. The film, a part of Yash Raj Films’ spy universe, will be releasing Christmas 2025.
