She came from a modeling background and impressed everyone with her debut performance in Madhur Bhandarkar’s FASHION. Mugdha Godse now has her hands full with some big projects. Our correspondent on her forthcoming release ALL THE BEST, JAIL and more

Your second release comes almost after a year after your debut. A long wait indeed…
(Pauses and then smiles) In fact it’s a long wait but not that much also. I was very aware about the entire thing and did not want to make any mistake by taking hasty decisions. My first film was a hit…my performance was appreciated and naturally a number of offers started coming in. But I was sure about what to do and what not to do. I could have signed a number of films but if they won’t have worked then everything would have gone wrong for me. So I decided to choose the right project.

So how has been the journey so far?
(Smiles again) It has been great…in one word fantastic. I have been fortunate that I got a very warm welcome to the industry and have been offered some very good projects and my co-stars in all the films have been great to work with. Now, I have to make sure that I work hard and come up with some good performances to stay here for a longer period.

‘Luck comes only with hard work.’

Don’t you think you have been really luck to have started of with Madhur Bhandarkar’s FASHION and now ALL THE BEST is Ajay Devgan’s production and again JAIL is Bhandarkar’s film.

Of course I have been lucky that the directors and producers have shown their faith in me. Very few are lucky like me but at the same time I feel that I got lucky only because I worked hard towards my goal. Luck and hard work comes hand-in-hand. Had I not given a good performance in FASHION, I don’t think luck would have favoured me.

You were doing quite well as a model, then why suddenly acting?
I was a model for five years and was really enjoying it. At the same time I was also thinking of doing something different and meaningful. That’s when FASHION happened. The success gave me the interest to work more and right now I am enjoying my stay in the film industry. I hope it’s not going to change for at least a while now.

Okay so how was it working on ALL THE BEST given that Ajay Devgan, Bipasha Basu and Sanjay Dutt are all big stars?
It was fabulous. And as I said earlier I never felt that I was a comparatively newcomer where as they all were stars. Initially I was a bit nervous that I would be working alongside Sanjay Dutt, but he is a gem of a human being, so is Bipasha, Fardeen and Ajay. They all made me really comfortable and moreover this film is a fun film, so the onscreen mood prevailed off the screen too.

Was working on FASHION easy as you were playing a model where as this is a comedy?
I won’t agree completely but certainly ALL THE BEST is a completely different film. It’s a light-hearted comedy, so I had to prepare for the role differently, whereas in FASHION I was playing a model. So I had a fair knowledge and was completely at ease walking the ramp but at the same time the personality and the nature of the role I played in FASHION had nothing to do with me as a real life model. So it was almost the same when it came to giving effort towards my role

So what’s you role like?
I play a very happy go lucky girl, very modern, elegant and stylish and am a fun loving person. I am paired opposite Fardeen Khan and it was a ball working with him. This girl believes in stones and destiny. It’s not that she is superstitious but she loves wearing different stones as good omen and believes that it will bring her luck… at the same time she also keeps suggesting and gifting everyone such stones as a lucky charm.

CHECK OUT: Rohit is extremely considerate

You shunned make-up for your role in Madhur Bhandarkar’s JAIL…
Yes, I had to look very simple and ordinary…girl-next-door and for that I had to do away with make up. It was all for the sake of the role. I know the kind of director Madhur Bhandarkar is, he can make me look glamorous for a role and de-glamorous for another just to make the film and story look better. JAIL is a very serious and intense film and I didn’t mind doing this role without make up. It’s all for the sake of the role after all.

So where do we see you next?
As I said earlier, I will pick and choose my projects and am in no rush. I am listening to a few scripts and am considering a couple of them, all are very powerful scripts. I hope you will get to know very soon about them. As of now my focus is on ALL THE BEST.
