Just like the last week, this Friday too will see another interesting clash between two diverse genre releases- Emraan Hashmi's TUM MILE and Aftab Shivdasani's AAO WISH KAREIN. It is but obvious that the opening battle will be won by the Bhatt camp venture, TUM MILE that boasts of a popular soundtrack and has the torrential Bombay rains as its backdrop. Unfortunately, Aftab's home banner venture, AAO WISH KAREIN, had a lot of potential but was not promoted properly and will suffer due to that.
The battle between Rajkumar Santoshi's AJAB PREM KI GHAZAB KAHANI and the Madhur Bhandarkar directed JAIL was always expected to be won by APKGK, but not as one sided as it actually turned out to be. The domination can be gauged from the fact that during the first weekend AJAB PREM KI GHAZAB KAHANI netted an excellent 24.50 crores from India as opposed to a paltry 5 crores by JAIL!
Released at 111 cinemas of Bombay city and suburbs (by Tips Industries Ltd. thru Rajesh Thadani) the Ranbir-Katrina starrer, AJAB PREM KI GHAZAB KAHANI, embarked on an excellent start. Outside of Bombay, the film saw an extraordinary opening at most of the places. The picture improved further as the weekend progressed. Trade however feels that the 35 crore budget AJAB PREM KI GHAZAB KAHANI may not be able to recover its investment. But if the film is able to sustain till just the second weekend, it will be a sure shot success. In the Overseas too APKGK has done quite well, grossing ?177,886 from UK and $461,505 from the US, during the first weekend (6-8 November)
The other release, Percept Picture Company and Bhandarkar Entertainment's JAIL released at 100 cinemas of Bombay city and suburbs (by Sky Space Entertainment Pvt. Ltd. thru VIP Exhibitors) saw a dull start. By and large the opening was weak across India and the pick up over the weekend was marginal. Trade feels that the 14-15 crore budget Neil-Mughda starrer JAIL will not be able to bail itself out at the ticket window. JAIL has also been rejected in the Overseas, grossing a negligible ?7,039 from UK during the first weekend (6-8 November).

LONDON DREAMS has also under-performed in the Overseas, grossing a so-so ?234,301 from UK up to the second weekend (6-8 November) and below par $300,293 from US (till November 8).
Meanwhile Sujoy Ghosh's ALADIN promised much but disappointed collecting 85 lakhs from Bombay (collection from 46 cinemas unreceived), 25 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 6 lakhs from Rajkot, 1.75 lakhs from Baroda, 1.50 lakhs each from Jamnagar and Bhavnagar, 1.25 lakhs from Gandhidham, 7 lakhs from Pune, 1.30 lakhs from Solapur, 2.50 lakhs from Nasik, 3.50 lakhs from Goa, 2 lakhs from Belgaum, 55 lakhs from Delhi city, 7 lakhs from Noida, 4.15 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 6.15 lakhs from Kanpur, 9 lakhs from Lucknow, 3.35 lakhs from Agra, 1.20 lakhs from Meerut, 1.75 lakhs from Aligarh, 2.35 lakhs from Gorakhpur, 9.35 lakhs from Gurgaon, 3.35 lakhs from Faridabad, 3 lakhs from Chandigarh, 10.50 lakhs from Calcutta, 1.50 lakhs from Guwahati, 5.65 lakhs from Nagpur, 1.65 lakhs from Jabalpur, 1.35 lakhs from Akola, 4 lakhs from Raipur, 2.50 lakhs from Indore, 1.65 lakhs from Bhopal, 1 lakh from Gwalior, 7.15 lakhs from Jaipur, 3.35 lakhs from Kota, 25 lakhs from Hyderabad, 6.25 lakhs from Bangalore and 2 lakhs from Mangalore. During its opening week the Amitabh, Ritesh and Jacqueline starrer, ALADIN, has netted a poor 6 crores from India. The film is on way to be a trade disaster. In the Overseas too ALADIN has been rejected with a poor gross of ?99,652 from UK up to the second weekend (6-8 November), while the US collections have not been disclosed.
Moving on the Anthony D'Souza directed BLUE, the film crashed heavily and beyond redemption collecting 10 lakhs from Bombay, (collections from 13 cinemas unreceived), 1.50 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 6.50 lakhs from Delhi city, 1 lakh from Noida, 2.25 lakhs from Lucknow, 2 lakhs from Gurgaon, 9.50 lakhs from Jaipur and 5 lakhs from Hyderabad. Adding another 1.45 crore, BLUE has more or less ended its run netting around 42 crores in three weeks from India. The Dutt, Akshay, Zayed and Lara starrer can barely be classified as a below average fare! The film has fared well in UK grossing ?446,926 up to up to the fourth weekend (6-8 November), while the US collections have not been disclosed.
Meanwhile Rohit Shetty's ALL THE BEST too crashed (not as badly as BLUE though!) in its third week. The film collected 75 lakhs from Bombay (collections from 20 cinemas unreceived), 18 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 1.30 lakhs from Baroda, 4 lakhs from Rajkot, 2.75 lakhs from Jamnagar, 2 lakhs from Bhavnagar, 1.25 lakhs from Gandhidham, 3.50 lakhs from Pune, 1.50 lakhs from Nasik, 1 lakh from Goa, 30 lakhs from Delhi city, 4.50 lakhs from Noida, 2.10 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 3.25 lakhs from Kanpur, 5 lakhs from Lucknow, 2.15 lakhs from Agra, 1.40 lakhs from Gorakhpur, 5.15 lakhs from Gurgaon, 2 lakhs from Faridabad, 2.75 lakhs from Chandigarh, 10 lakhs from Calcutta, 4.50 lakhs from Nagpur, 1.50 lakhs from Jabalpur, 1 lakh from Amravati, 2.05 lakhs from Raipur, 4 lakhs from Jaipur, 1.50 lakhs from Kota, 13 lakhs from Hyderabad, 7 lakhs from Bangalore and 1.10 lakhs from Mangalore. Adding another 3.35 crore, ALL THE BEST has netted a satisfactory 39.85 crores in three weeks from India. Due to falling collections after the second weekend (as we had said in our last column) the Dutt, Devgan, Fardeen and Bipasha starrer, ALL THE BEST fails to get a clean hit status and will end up as an above average fare. The film has been out rightly rejected in the Overseas, grossing a poor ?107,521 from UK up to the fourth weekend (6-8 November) and and an equally poor $120,713 from the US till the end of its run from US.
