The beloved American sitcom Brooklyn Nine-Nine is getting an Indian twist. According to an exclusive report by PeepingMoon.com, Netflix India is reimagining the police procedural comedy for local audiences, with Kunal Kemmu set to headline the series in the role of Jake Peralta originally played by Andy Samberg.
Kunal Kemmu Steps into Jake Peralta’s Shoes
Kunal Kemmu, known for his comic timing in films like Go Goa Gone, Lootcase, and the Golmaal franchise, will portray the sharp yet childish detective Peralta in the Indian version. The adaptation will be directed by Rishab Seth (Rishta.com, Dhoom Dhaam) and written by Aarsh Vora, his frequent collaborator. Production is expected to begin in October 2025.

Banijay Asia and Netflix Team Up Again
The untitled series will be produced by Banijay Asia, the same production house behind Netflix’s hit Indian adaptation of Call My Agent. Known for their successful remakes of global series like The Night Manager and The Good Wife, Banijay Asia is once again tapping into international formats to deliver relatable local content.
Casting is currently underway for the rest of the ensemble, including the Indian version of the iconic Captain Raymond Holt, with final decisions pending script completion.

A Busy Slate for Kunal Kemmu
Kunal Kemmu is expected to begin filming the series after wrapping up Single Papa, another Netflix India original a heartwarming story about single parenthood directed by Shashank Khaitan. He also has Raj & DK’s Gulkanda Tales lined up for Amazon Prime Video and will reunite with Rohit Shetty for Golmaal 5, which goes on floors in March 2026. Additionally, the actor is developing his second directorial venture following the surprise success of Madgaon Express.
Fans can expect a fresh take on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, tailored to Indian sensibilities while keeping its signature humor and heart intact.
