The trailer for Sardaar Ji 3, starring Diljit Dosanjh and Neeru Bajwa, has stirred both excitement and controversy ahead of its overseas release on June 27. This installment introduces popular Pakistani actors Hania Aamir, Nasir Chinyoti, Daniel Khawar, and Saleem Albela, prompting criticism amid ongoing Indo-Pak tensions.
Diljit took to social media to clarify that the film will release “OVERSEAS Only” for now, with the Indian release date pending. The studio echoed this, asking fans for patience. However, backlash swiftly followed. Social media users accused Diljit of insensitivity, especially after April’s Pahalgam terror attack and India’s Operation Sindoor. One fan wrote, “Didn’t expect this from Diljit post-Pahalgam where’s the line?”
Following the 2019 Pulwama attack, the Indian film industry banned Pakistani artists. That policy remains, enforced by bodies like the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE), which recently condemned Diljit’s decision and warned of potential sanctions.
Diljit’s History with Controversy
This isn’t the first time Diljit has faced criticism. During his historic 2023 Coachella performance, he was misinterpreted as disrespecting the Indian flag. He later clarified he was promoting unity through music.
In 2024, his Dil-Luminati India tour faced backlash over high ticket prices ranging from ₹1,499 to ₹19,999, raising concerns about accessibility. Additionally, filming at Delhi’s sacred Bangla Sahib Gurdwara without restrictions drew ire for apparent privilege.
