Hans Zimmer Names His All-Time Favorite Score, And It’s Not What You’d Expect

In a recent chat with Reece Feldman, aka Guy With A Movie Camera, legendary composer Hans Zimmer took fans through a personal ranking of his most iconic movie scores. Kicking things off with a surprise, Zimmer picked The Lion King (1994) over Pirates of the Caribbean, revealing it was written for his daughter and helped him process the loss of his own father.

As the bracket moved forward, The Lion King bowed out to Inception, which in turn was topped by Interstellar, Zimmer’s ultimate favorite. “It’s one of the few movies where I’m going, actually…I think I did okay,” he humbly said. Fans weren’t having the understatement, flooding social media with praise like, “You did OKAY? That was a masterpiece.”

Zimmer’s journey didn’t stop there. From Thelma & Louise to Dune (“I’m not done with Dune yet”), he reflected on decades of emotional and creative highs. Sherlock Holmes made a strong showing, but The Dark Knight took the final win, a fitting tribute to his legendary partnership with Christopher Nolan.

Hans Zimmer’s reflections weren’t just about music, they were about memory, emotion, and the deeply personal stories behind each score. Whether it’s the childhood grief behind The Lion King, Inception’s mind-bending brilliance, or Interstellar’s raw emotional gravity, each composition tells more than just a cinematic tale; it tells its own. And while The Dark Knight may have claimed the final crown, it’s clear that for Zimmer, music isn’t about winners, it’s about connection.

One note at a time, he’s scored not just films, but feelings that have stayed with us long after the credits rolled.
